ARTIST HIGLIGHT - DEFICIO

We think that Deficio is under-appreciated. Go ahead and Google him. The majority of hits will come up for with information on Martin "Deficio" Lynge - a professional League of Legends player.

Not our Deficio
That's not who we're talking about. We're talking about Deficio, the 20 year old Swedish producer who has come on the scene in a huge way considering his facebook says he only "gained interest in music production in 2011."

We see artists who wait for 10 years before being noticed for one single. Everything this guy puts out could be his new single. Give a listen to his original productions and remixes and you'll understand why. He is a master of a variety of generes and does not necessarily stick to just one like we see from many artists. Whether it is melbourne bounce, reggae bounce, house, or big room, he can do no wrong. The guy has remixed Beethoven! His tracks are those ones you hear blended into mixes at huge festivals and he tends to fly under the radar.  He announced to his 2,000 Twitter followers that he has a new two-track EP coming in September which we will be sure to update you on. Give a listen to a few of our favorite Deficio tracks then head to his Soundcloud for more.

HABITS OF MY HEART - ELK ROAD REMIX

On repeat today, we have Elk Road's remix of "Habits of My Heart". The remix blends the use of indie samples and vocals, strong basslines, and a little glitch to make a track we can't stop listening to. Check it out and hear more Elk Roads on his Soundcloud.

AMINE EDGE & DANCE VS TOUGH LOVE EP

Normally when we see a collaboration like this, it is just for one track. Think Afrojack and Martin Garrix's upcoming collab. But for the past 2 years Amine Edge & DANCE  have teamed up with London natives Tough Love, to produce this 5 track EP. Both groups, with their love for the mix of hip-hop, bass lines, and true house, have their own creative twist you can hear on each track. The full EP will be available August 18th through Get Twisted Records.

NEW AVICII ALBUM

Avicii received a lot of flak and negative feedback when he first released his most recent album, True, as purists were saying that it was too "twangy" and did not stay true to the foundations of electronic music. Avicii laughed all the way to the bank as Top 40 radio embraced the new sound and his single "Wake Me Up" became the most streamed song on Spotify.

Now, rumors show that he is again working to expand the limits of electronic music as Rolling Stone reported that his upcoming album will feature, Jon Bon Jovi, Chris Martin from Coldplay, Billie Joe Armstron, Wyclef Jean, Matisyahu, and Serj Tankian from System of a Down. The album is set to be released later this year and include over 70 songs Avicii has been working on. When asked, he said the album will "be a lot more song oriented", seeming to stick with the direction of the genre as a whole.

We will be sure to update you when more news comes out, until then check out Avicii on his Soundcloud and listen to his alreaduy released collaboration with Coldplay below.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW - ILLUSTRATED

Sean Layton, a Corpus Christi native now Living in Los Angeles, was raised on music. His early passion for sound led him to join several bands where he learned how the mold for a song was made. These lessons created inspiration for Layton and when inspiration struck, he would take notes in his Blackberry, one of which said "Illustrated (Song/Or band name)". That note has come to fruition as Sean Layton has become Illustrated. His debut EP Mental Drug  put him on the map and allowed to evolve as an artist and release his second EP Define Me. Today he has released his new remix "I Was a Fool". We had the pleasure of interviewing Illustrated about his inspirations, his work, and what the future may hold. Listen to the track then check out the interview to learn more about him.

Keep up with Illustrated and stay on the lookout for more material coming very soon!

EDM DICTIONARY

There are so many different forms of electronic music these days, it can be hard to keep track. In order to give you a better understanding of what different nuances within a track help to define it as, we have created a basic EDM dictionary. While it may be nearly impossible to cover them all, we have defined some of the most popular.  It will help you to get a better grasp on what track you are listening to and what makes it stand out. We all have our favorite artists, right? The one you saw when nobody knew who they were, or the DJ superstar who puts out all your favorite tracks. Regardless of who's on the turntables, there are droves of fans supporting them - buying tickets, CD's, schwag. Some even take it to the next level as you can see...
In an article put out by EDM.com, they take a look at the 5 most dedicated fanbases within EDM. The Yankees fans of the music world if you will. We don't want to give it away, but the results were pretty interesting. You can read the article and find out who the top 5 are HERE.

Follow us on Twitter and Facebook to let us know who your favorite DJs are!

THROWBACK THURSDAY

With all the new music coming out, it's rare for us to have an opportunity to pull out a throwback Thursday, but artist Kasum does it for us with his new remix of Sum 41's "In Too Deep". In case you can't remember, this track was their single back in 2001. If this 13 year old track doesn't make you feel old, I don't know what will. Give the track a listen, it's an awesome blend of modern electronica, and the pop-punk of the late 90's early 00's.

ARTIST HIGHLIGHT - CHROMEO

Chromeo is a Canadian electrofunk duo comprised of David Macklovitch (right) and Patrick Gemayel. The guys have been putting out music since 2002, with their first hit single "You're So Gangsta", a track utilizing the saxophone that has become so popular recently. They met in college and describe themselves as "the only successful Arab/Jewish partnership since the dawn of human culture." Chromeo has been pretty steady in the album releases with about one every 3 years, their most recent of which was released just this year titled "White Women". If you haven't heard their single "Jealous" in some way, shape, or form, then you haven't been paying attention. This track skyrocketed up the charts when it was released and has been remixed by everyone from Dillon Francis, to Benny Benassi, to Savoy. You can listen to those remixes on their Soundcloud

Check them out on their "Frequent Flyer Tour" going on now!

GLOBAL DANCE SET TIMES

GDF has finally released the set times for all the artists and their stages this weekend. Give it a look and head to their website for more information.

MARVEL YEARS - WHISTLE AND BUMP

A little bit of soul, a little bit of hip-hop, and a little Snoop Dogg makes Whistle and Bump one good Mambo track. Check out Marvel Years on their Soundcloud for more of their unique style.

PUBLIC OUTDOOR DJ BOOTH "FONO"

Every generation has a genre of music that speaks for and defines them. You can look back through history and separate eras based on what style of music was popular at the time. One thing that never changes, however is the desire to either perform or watch a live performance. Dating back to the time of Shakespearse's Globe, to festivals like Woodstock, to amphitheaters and performance venues in modern times, venues have adapted to the style of music and entertainment prevalent at the time. Our generation may be looked at as the generation of electronic music, and as such the avenues for performance and watching are adapting.  Dutch company Yalp has created the Fono - the worlds first outdoor DJ booth. The concrete like structure can be placed anywhere and can be easily used by anyone. Check out some of the pictures and view a video demonstration HERE.

ARTIST HIGHLIGHT - DOM DOLLA

When we highlight a certain artist, we like to listen through most of their work and select a few of favorites to show all of you. With Dom Dolla we planned on doing the same thing but after about 2 hours of going through his Soundcloud, we couldn't decide which tracks we were into the most. So we made a playlist of ten. Yes, we are highlighting ten tracks from a guy whose biggest claim to fame so far is a remix for The Aston Shuffle. Can you guess where he is from? If you said Melbourne, Australia, you're right. There is something in the water out there. We would go say check out his Soundcloud, but we've pretty much uploaded all of it on the playlist below. The guy has his own unique twist for every track that keeps you guessing. He's got house, progressive, deep house, some funk, swing, and the kitchen sink. Check him out below.

DEPRESSION AND DANCE MUSIC

Fame, fortune, adoration. Private planes, limos, parties. These are what you see when you look at the worlds top DJs. Jet setting from the coast of Ibiza to play your next set for tens of thousands of fans in Paris. It all seems perfect on the outside. Images and videos from any number of festivals, concerts, and clubs show EDM as a medium for happiness and joy. The lights, the sounds, the energy all invigorate the senses and create a reality that can be far different from any real-life experiences. In this incredible article DJ Paul Thomas and FunkAgenda confront the stigma of mental illness and depression in an eye-opening, personally revealing way. The guys open up about their own personal struggles with depression and how clubland and EDM allowed them as escape from their disease. Get educated, read the article from Decoded Magazine HERE.

BLONDESOUND - FOOLISH

Something we've noticed about writing about music is that our favorite song changes - every single day in fact. It needs to change though, because once we find it, we drive that thing so far into the ground we start to hate it. What's great about the world of EDM, though, is that there is never a shortage of artists, producers, or sounds, and that translates into a renewal of songs we thought we had cast off long ago. Cue Blondesound and their track Foolish. Adam Englefield and Jacob Manson, from the UK, put out one of our favorite songs a few months ago, and once the stems started to spread, the remixes started to flood in. We can't pick a favorite, but maybe you can. Listen to the tracks below and tweet us to let us know your favorite!

FEDDE LE GRAND - TWISTED

Producer Fedde Le Grand has just released a new track titled Twisted. Give a listen below then head over to Beatport to buy it for yourself.

The duo rose to fame in 2013 with with the help of the UK TV series Superstar DJs that helped get the word out about the work that they were doing in the studio. ARTIST HIGHLIGHT - CHET FAKER

Chet Faker, otherwise known as Nicholas Murphy, is worthy of his own artist highlight simply becuase of his beard, but it turns out his music isn't half bad either. The man comes form Melbourne, Australia, but rather than stick to the genre defined by his origins, he's created a style that is all his own consisting mainly of an electro-chill vibe. He first got our attention in 2011 with his incredible cover of Blackstreet's No Diggity - the tracks fame of course renewed by the film Pitch Perfect. Since then he has signed with American label Downtown Records and released his first EP Thinking in Textures which won him Breakthrough Artist of the Year and Best Independent Single/EP at the Australian Independent Records Awards. His success allowed him to produce and release his first full album Built on Glass. Get his full album on his website and check out some of our favorites below.

ARTIST HIGHLIGHT - HANSEL THORN

Hansel Thorn is proof that DJ's seem to be getting younger all the time. Fortunately, with that youth comes the courage and freshness to try something new. Thorn is a 19 year old out of Bakersfield, CA who's style of EDM seems dependent upon the day. Give a listen to any one of tracks and it could turn out to be big room, progressive, chill, or something totally new...and that is what we love about him. Our favorite track "Shake It" was just named as one of the top ten tracks to have on your summer playlist by EDM.com. His most recent album is called Cairo and features tons of great tracks. Find your favorite below then head to his Soundcloud for some free downloads or buy the album HERE .

#SELFIE - BOTNEK REMIX

You thought that #SELFIE was gone? Wrong. Botnek's trap remix revives the 21st century anthem, though his take is a little darker. Check it out below and get it on Beatport.

STELOUSE - THE CITY EP

This EP from local Denver producer SteLouse gives us the chills. With hints of 80's nostalgia blended up with a low-key trap makes for smooth listening. And honestly, we can't stop. All 4 tracks on the EP have a unique sound that show the SteLouse is a master of his craft. Check out the tracks then head over to his Soundcloud for a free download.

Since then, the guys have released numerous single and have been won several awards including The Brit Award and Mobo Award for Best Album, in addition to receiving numerous nominations at the MTV Europe Music Awards and have achieved multiple Platinum awards for record sales.  Check out some of their singles and our favorites below!

KOALA - OLIVER HELDENS
