ARTIST HIGHLIGHT - GRYFFIN

If I had to put money on who I thought the next breakout EDM star would be, I would put it all on Gryffin. Take one listen to the tracks on his Soundcloud and you'll understand why. Gryffin hails from New York and much like breakout star KYGO, Gryffin remixes tracks and keeps them at a sexy 100 BPM to create soulful, deep house masterpieces. Check out just some of his tracks below then head over to his Soundcloud for more.

ARIANA GRANDE & ZEDD COLLABORATION

UPDATE:

JOSE GONZALEZ - STEP OUT (THE CHAINSMOKERS REMIX)

I've said it before and I'll say it again, The Chainsmokers can do no wrong. Just released on their Soundcloud is a a deep remix from Jose Gonzalez . The new track is a long way from their bouncy bass-heavy #SELFIE that they are known for. If you are looking for a soulful house groove, check out the track below.

KASKADE REDUX EP

Kaskade's latest tour hasn't been full of his usual bass drops and festival anthems. His Redux tour puts on display his true abilities as an electronic music artist. The slower house jams are  have been exclusive to vinyl but he has recently released his Redux EP in a digital format. Among the tracks including "Ain't Gotta Lie" and "No One Knows Who We Are" are the stems for the former track. He has challenged fans to use the stems in order to take the original to a new level saying "I'd happily pass out the pieces of every song I've made for others to use. Remix that. Use that. Think you can do better? Show me?" Get his EP HERE and listen to some of his Redux set below.

HARDWELL

Hardwell announced the dates for his upcoming US tour yesterday. Though not quite what most were expecting, the tour will make stops in most of America's big cities. This announcement follows the news that his new single "Arcadia" will be released on July 7th as part of his album Revealed Volume 5 which will be out June 20.

BENNY BENASSI - LET THIS LAST FOREVER

Last week, Benny Benassi announced that he would be releasing some new music. The track features British singer Gary Go and the NSFW video features the synchronized swimming team Aqualillies. Benassi seems to shy away from his usual big room roots and incorporates some good vocals and rhythm making for a great house track. Check it out below.

FUNK FRIDAY

Today's Funk Friday we'll be checking out some nu-disco. Nu-disco obvious is a collaboration between disco era trends, including synth-heavy and P-funk, and electronic music. While the sub-genre has been around since the 70's and 80's, nu-disco has only been more mainstream recently with the stylings of groups like Daft Punk and Breakbot. Check out some of my favorite nu disco below.

ARTIST HIGHLIGHT - HENRY FONG

With dreads like his, it is hard to not take notice of Henry Fong. He has grown up with some good fortune on his side as his father, billionaire Henry Fong Yun Wah, is the 26th richest man in Hong Kong. He got his start in music early like most, albeit a bit unorthodox since his first musical instrument is was actually an accoridan. Fong is best known for his track "Stand Up" (below) and has teamed up with several artists and has today just released his new single "Takin' It Back". Check out his soundcloud for a free download.

ARTIST HIGHLIGHT - THE KNOCKS

The Knocks consist of B "B-Roc" Ruttner and James "JPatt" Patterson from New York City. The duo got their name from a time early in their career when neighbors would knock on their door for playing music too loudly. Since forming back in 2007, they have mixed for Katy Perry and Britney Spears, opened for Ellie Goulding, and shared the stage with Deadmau5, Skrillex, Tiesto, and more. NME Magazine has named "The Knocks" one of the "20 hottest producers in music".  Check out a couple of their singles below, then head over to their Soundcloud to hear more.

KNIFE PARTY ALBUM RELEASE

Knife Party announced on Friday that their new album, Abandon Ship, has "9 of 12 tracks confirmed 5 in the 'maybe' pile, and 5 in the 'ideas' stage. 2 weeks til mastering"  There have been no leaks or previews released so far, so as far as we can guess, the tracks may be similar to those found on their most recent Haunted House EP, which you can check out here. Knife Party will be performing at The Spring Awakening Music Festival this coming weekend and may debut some new tracks there.

AXWELL INGROSSO RELEASE

According to the duo's Facebook page, they will be releasing 6 of their new tracks of their debut album, "Departures", tonight in New York. Stay tuned to hear the 6 here or on our Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/Notyourmommasmusic.

FUNK FRIDAY

The use of electronica in music makes nearly every song mixable. This versatility has led to an incredible amount of sub-genres within the electronic music scene. The overwhelming majority of well-known electronic music falls in the big room/house/dubstep side leaving many other tracks and mixes unknown. Funk Friday is dedicated to these  sub-genres; everything including swing, funk, blues, groove, and more. Check out some of my favorites below.

Defunk classifies his track, "The Waltz", as a groove track. The groove sub-genre of electronic music is considered more of and overarching classification stemming from the use of drums, guitar, and keyboard as opposed to heavy synth or bass.

"The Viper" by Play Dirty is heavy on the swing loops, iconic to the period of the flappers and big bands of the 1920's, giving it the four-on-the-floor baseline and fusing it with jazz loops gives it the electroswing sound.

ORDINARY LOVE - U2 (PRETTY PINK REMIX)

In the often male dominated world of EDM, it's not often that I get to highlight a female producer or DJ. Pretty Pink is a German DJ and producer who has moved up the ranks on the international club scene. Her most recent remix of U2's "Ordinary Love" was uploaded to her soundcloud today and she does a great job of maintaining the vocals while adding her own unique electronic twist.

OFFICIAL AFTERMOVIE

Dance music is truly becoming a worldwide phenomenon. While its roots can be traced back to artists all over the world, it took hold most heavily in Western Europe in the late 90s and early 00s. Since then it has been making its way through the North and South America. The after movie below illustrates the spread of dance music and how it has creates culture and  community. In February 2014, the largest music festival in African history took place. Rewriting stereotypes on both the music and the country, the Offical After Movie of Ultra 2014 - South Africa is really a great watch.
