ULTRA MIAMI 2015 LINEUP LEAK

The stacked lineup for Ultra Miami 2015 was leaked online today and features all the usual suspects. Can say without a doubt that we are msot excited for the additions of KYGO, Odesza, Gorgon City, and Kiesza, all of whom have been tearing it up in 2014. Click below for the full line-up.

ARTIST HIGHLIGHT - BASS PHYSICS

Always in support of fellow Coloradoans and CSU Rams, there is no way we could get away with not featuring these guys before, perhaps, one of their biggest shows to date. All the eyes of the electronic Colorado family will be on BassPhysics as they represent the state at Decadence tomorrow. The collaboration consists of A.P Adair (Applied Physics) and Luke Sims (DataBass) who joined forces at Cherry Creek High School, outside Denver, CO. 

Their sound revolves around a slowed down funk, fused with a live guitar and keyboard. Each track has brings its own style with some sticking to the infamous Colorado chillwave and others exploding with the power of big house. They burst on to the scene in a big way with their first album Lose Your Mind, and in the last month have released their latest EP, available for free download below.

MR. PROBZ - NOTHING REALLY MATTERS (KAV VERHOUZER REMIX)

Mr. Probz is a master of creating tracks that work to make you feel something. We're talking "Waves" and his original version of "Nothing Really Matters".

With 2014 coming to an end, we are taking a look back at some of our favorite artists who we are expecting to have a huge 2015. Ranging from teenage remix masters, to a local Denver native who is stretching the boundaries of what EDM has been so traditionally defined as. 2014 ARTIST OF THE YEAR

You can't argue with numbers, and our choice for number one DJ of the year has plenty of incredible numbers. Despite having health issues for a good portion of the year leading to missed appearances and canceled tours, Avicii found a way to have a more incredible year than anyone out there, and the numbers are laid out like this:

BIGGEST GENRE INFLUENCE OF 2014

This year we saw the rise of diversifying genres, though some may argue they all fall under the same umbrella, there are clear distinctions in how different genres have emerged. If 2013 was the year of progressive house, then 2014 was by far the year of the Bounce Generation. The bounce track, originating down in Melbourne, Australia, is a progression of the up-tempo horn-infused dutch stylings, with incorporation of their own raucous horns.

 If you need any example, check out one of the OGs of the genre, Will Sparks. 

A close second in this category goes to Big Room. Particularly here in the states, the rising popularity of electronic clubs and festivals has given rise to the genre - taking the melody progression from house and combining it with the energy of electro-house and trance to create emotional build-ups, followed by an energetic, melodic drop (i.e. any Spinnin' Records release). 

We expect next year to be the year of Deep House - get your vocal chords ready.

 

EMERGING ARTIST OF THE YEAR

From 15 - 16 you could find KYGO sitting in his room up in Norway listening to Avicii on repeat. This inspired KYGO to remix and produce tracks of his own, and after gathering over 80 million views on Youtube and Soundcloud, he received a life changing phone call from Avicii and Chris Martin of Coldplay to create official remixes of their songs. We knew he was going to be special when we featured him in an Artist Highlight in early May, and since then, KYGO has not looked back.  He started his year opening for Avicii, and ended by performing on the Mainstage at Tomorrowland and beginning his own world tour. He also inked an exclusive worldwide record deal with Sony Music and Ultra. And between all of that, he has had opportunities to continue pumping out remixes and releasing his first very own original track Firestone.

BIGGEST TRACK OF 2014

When we say biggest track, we mean the one that you cannot get away from - remember the #SELFIE song? We're talking about the song that your parents are dancing along to in the kitchen, and the same one you hear on your drive to the club, where you will be sure to hear the track at least once. 

According to the Chinese calendar, it is the year of the snake, and thus it is only fitting that one of the biggest artists to slither on to the scene is DJ Snake himself. He first made waves in 2013 with what was, maybe, the biggest track of the year. It has transcended 2013 and has become the electronic anthem of 2014.  "Turn Down For What" is now featured in everything from your local frat party to ATT commercials. The track and music video have been nominated for a total of 5 awards, winning one for Best Direction from the MTV Video Music Awards. DJ Snake managed to prevent himself from becoming a one-hit-wonder by collaborating with Dillon Francis on Get Low and hopping on-board The Mothership Tour with Skrillex this past year. He is currently on an international tour, playing alongside the likes of Diplo, Dillon Francis, Tiesto, and Carl Cox.

JAKE ISAAC - WAITING HERE (FILOUS REMIX)

At only 17 years old it is hard to believe that Filous has the following and reputation that he does, but once you hear any one of his remixes, you'll understand why. His latest track is the official remix of Jake Isaac's "Waiting Here" available on Hypem, and features all the smooth deephouse we've come to expect from him. StadiumX has been busy all year. In addition to their track "Ghost" being in the Top 10 on Beatport, their remixes have been making the rounds as well and they have combined just some of their work into one killer playlist. Chuckie is getting in on the latest trend in dance music, the bounce. And apparently it takes an army to make a track with this much of it. Chuckie teams up with Diamond Pistols and Hyper Crush to release what we can only image to be one of many bounce tracks coming from the king of dirty dutch. ARTIST HIGHLIGHT - TORA

Call it liquid, call it future, call it whatever you want, but these Aussies know how to put together the perfect track. Self described as a mix of electronic and chillwave, the guys from Tora began by putting together an EP in their garage and haven't looked back since. Their latest Eat The Sun EP is a 7 track masterpiece revolving around a slow methodical base and tantalizing vocals.  Pick any one of the tracks to get your Monday started right. If you're looking to get your weekend started off on the right note, you've got to check out KznMusic. The 20 year old Brazilian is creating his own brand of big room with layered synths and big bass. We can't decide which one of his original tracks and remixes we like best so we've got a few below for free download, but be sure to follow him on Soundcloud and Twitter for more.

THE CHEF - THE OCEAN

Eric Simi, otherwise known as The Chef, is an 18 year old producer hailing from Turin, Italy. One of his first original tracks, The Ocean, lays down some fluid piano that makes for easy listening. From a small town in Denmark comes a 17 year old DJ working to make his way in the big world of electronic music. His recent works focus on the remixing and mastering of popular top 40 tracks, and he does it as well as any headliner in the business. KYGO - FIRESTONE (FEAT. CONRAD)

After about a year straight of touring with his remixes, Kygo recently released his one of his first original tracks, "Firestone" featuring Conrad. The soft, down-tempo track stays true to the tropical stylings that we have heard from him in the past, but he works to emphasize the vocals of the up-and-coming Conrad. SKRILLEX & WHAT SO NOT FEAT KLP - GOH

Never one to fade from the spotlight for too long, Skrillex has teamed up with What So Not (Flume and Emoh Instead) to produce and release "Goh". Skirllex shared the track on an hour long radio show he did for George FM in New Zealand. The big bass track has clear inputs from Flume and Emoh coupled with the heavy dub that we are used to hearing from Skrillex, and is is only the latest in what has been a flurry of releases for OWSLA.

MARKUS SCHULZ - WINTER KILLS ME

A brand new single coming from techno king Markus Schulz was released today. The track is the second collaboration with Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Victoria Horn. Taking over a year to produce, this track was the final one of his 2014 residency at Amnesia in Ibiza. Give a listen below and buy it on Beatport or iTunes.

ODESZA - SAY MY NAME (MARKUS SHULZ REMIX)

The ever popular and highly remixed "Say My Name" from Odesza gets a face-lift from one of the remixing kings, Markus Shulz, as he implements his trance tunage on the track.

THE CHAINSMOKERS TEAM UP WITH YOUTUBE & SIRIUSXM

YouTube and SiriusXM are teaming up to launch a new radio show titled The YouTube EDM 15. The show will be hosted by The Chainsmokers and feature the top trending electronic dance songs based on YouTube viewership data. 

SiriusXM states that "Building on the great response to The YouTube 15 show on our Hits 1 channel, we are excited to collaborate again with YouTube to create The YouTube EDM 15, which will spotlight emerging EDM songs on the world's largest music video platform."

The show will take place weekly on Fridays at 8PM EST and BPM, channel 51. The countdown will also be featured as a video playlist at youtube.com/siriusXM.

This will keep The Chainsmokers busy as they host their "Nice Hair" radio show monthly on Electric Area, channel 52. 

KREWELLA - SAY GOODBYE

It's been a rough few weeks in the Krewella camp. Their latest track "Say Goodbye" seems to officially confirm that Kris "Rainman" Trindl, has separated from Yasmine and Jahan Yousaf. After nasty allegations and claims were thrown back and forth, neither party ever made an official statement on the matter, and now it seems the girls are letting the music speak for itself.

The track includes more rock than we've heard in years past, and vocals clearly illustrate the breakup within the group. Listen below and be sure to pickup the free download HERE.

TEEMID CRAZY EP

EDC 2015 - DATES AND TICKET INFORMATION

Is it already time to start warming up for festival season? The Electric Daisy Carnival, hosted by Insomniac Events, has released the dates for the event along with ticket information. Passes are expected to go quickly as over 400,000 people attended the event last year, making it one of the biggest music festivals in the world.


Taking place from June 19-21, tickets will be available beginning Dec. 1 at 12PM PST and can be purchased HERE. 

The three-day general admissions pass starts at $329, plus everyone's favorite service fee. If you're looking for a bit more luxury, three-day VIP passes are starting at $699. One big change to the event is that NO single-day tickets will be available. 

HANSEL THORN - DISCO TRUMPET

OFFICIAL TOMORROWWORLD 2014 AFTERMOVIE

A big announcement today as TomorrowWorld has released their official aftermovie from the 2014 festival. Taking place in Chatahoochie Hills, GA, the festival is the US based version of Tomorrowland and is quickly becoming one of the biggest shows this side of the Atlantic.

AVICII & WYCLEF JEAN - DIVINE SORROW

Producer Avicii and singer Wyclef Jean have come together to fight AIDS. Their brand new track "Divine Sorrow" is part of Project RED that works to use people in the progress of researching eliminating AIDS. The track will be a part of Avicii's upcoming Stories album and the track can be purchased on it's own to raise money for AIDS research HERE.

ARTIST HIGHLIGHT - CARNAGE AND HIS MONEY CANNON

Carnage really does love his fans, and he shows it time and time again through his words and his actions. Last night in Chicago, the self proclaimed Papi Gordo hid $10,000 dollars in his confetti cannons that showered over 5,000 adoring fans. On his Facebook page, he continued to state his love and appreciation for his fans: 

As with anything else, there are lose who criticize and belittle the act, but if you know anything about Carnage, you know this is not about the publicity or the money. Whether it is on the stage, or in the studio, Carnage's respect and appreciation for fans is unrivaled. KNIFE PARTY ALBUM RELEASE

2 weeks ago Knife Party announced that they were having to push the release of their latest album back two weeks for reasons "outside of their control". While the full album was expected to drop on Monday the 10th, it seems Abandon Ship has been fully released today through several outlets. There have been several tracks released early, a few of which you can find and listen to below, along with the track list from the full album. The album stays true to their hard-hitting bass and can be purchased HERE.

AXWELL INGROSSO - CAN'T HOLD US DOWN

The brand new single from Alesso and Ingrosso was released earlier today. Since the announcement of the 2 guys rejoining forces with their release of their Departures album, they have slowly but surely been releasing hit after hit single, and "Can't Hold Us Down" is certainly no exception. Though they no longer are a part of the once internationally acclaimed Swedish House Mafia, there is no doubt that some of the sound has carried over with them. He stays away from the big room and house sounds that are every present in today's music world, focusing more on a "breezy synth and fluid bass lines." SWINDLE - WALTERS CALL EP

 It's good to have friends in high places. Flux Pavillion made mention of this guy on Twitter, and of course we had to go check him out for ourselves. Trying to classify his style only puts a cage over what he works so hard to avoid; a genre. Call it electroswing, call it trap, call it whatever you want to call it, but Swindle has got IT. KNIFE PARTY ALBUM RELEASE PUSHED BACK

 In another case of artist versus industry, Knife Party has had to push back the release date of their album 2 weeks, to Nov. 10th. While they do no specifically blame any one person or organization, they cite the fiasco between Beyonce and Target and their refusing to stock the album due to it being released early, exclusively through iTunes. Their story seems to be similar in stating that they wish they could say "fuck it, do your worst, you irrelevant old fucking dinosaurs" however their label refuses this idea for fear over lost sales and profits. To say that Terravita has been busy would be an understatement. Besides touring with the huge ear-shattering Safe In Sound Festival, they have also been in the studio and somehow managed to put together an incredible 6 track EP, putting on display the huge bass and womp-oriented tracks we have come to expect.
