It's an issue as old as digital music itself, do you pay for music to support the artist or do you give your wallet a break and shy away from paying 2.50 per song (looking at you Beatport). As the popularity of electronic music increases, so do the costs. Recently, Steve Angello, Afrojack, and Paul Oakenfold have spoken up against the rising costs, particularly in Ibiza, with single tickets costing in excess of $90. While many artists give out free downloads of their new tracks, the expenses for the average fan are becoming overwhelming.
Matt Zo may have a solution. The man is often outspoken about the issue of downloading music, and seems to have decided that enough is enough. He is starting Mad Zoo, a label where every release will be free. Can you imagine? He is starting it off by releasing his own The Up Down Left Right EP. It will be interesting to see how this works out and to see if it is a revolution in the industry and who will jump on board.

The highly anticipated single from The Knocks has finally been released on their Soundcloud. It sticks to their classicly laidback, nu-disco style while incorporating the use of lyricists Powers. Solid track.
Today's Funk Friday we'll be checking out some nu-disco. Nu-disco obvious is a collaboration between disco era trends, including synth-heavy and P-funk, and electronic music. While the sub-genre has been around since the 70's and 80's, nu-disco has only been more mainstream recently with the stylings of groups like Daft Punk and Breakbot. The Knocks consist of B "B-Roc" Ruttner and James "JPatt" Patterson from New York City. The duo got their name from a time early in their career when neighbors would knock on their door for playing music too loudly. Since forming back in 2007, they have mixed for Katy Perry and Britney Spears, opened for Ellie Goulding, and shared the stage with Deadmau5, Skrillex, Tiesto, and more.
